Mother’s Day is this Sunday! As we thank God for our moms (and moms-in-law) and celebrate this weekend, may I encourage you to prayerfully consider anyone who might need some extra love this Mother’s Day?
- Who do you know who will be going through a “first” Mother’s Day without their mom?
- Who has a strained relationship with their mom?
- Who lives far away from their family?
- Who recently experienced a miscarriage? Loss of a child?
- Who do you know who desperately wants to be a mom, but is childless at this time?
I have one close friend who dreads Mother’s Day every year. She is currently unable to have children, and I have learned much journeying with her. For years, my friend would skip church on Mother’s Day Sunday, because when all the mom’s were asked to stand up, it was too painful.
Can you imagine? Desperately wanting to be a mom, and watching while all the mothers in the room stand and receive a rose and a round of applause?Â
My girls and I have started a tradition of bringing her flowers, but Mother’s Day is a day she wishes she could fast forward through.
As we celebrate this weekend, may we be mindful of others as well, and look for ways to share hope, joy, and peace, for those who will be having a hard time on Mother’s Day.
For suggestions on things to say/not say, you may find my post on “What Should I Say?“ helpful.
How about for you? Are you looking forward to Mother’s Day? Do have have a favorite Mother’s Day tradition?
I’m guessing my gang will serve me breakfast in bed (including a Starbucks vanilla latte). My son Jake usually whips up a delicious breakfast tray.
We’ll bring flowers and cards to those who are having a hard day.
We’re having a Qdoba lunch at my house. Yum! I’m thanking God for my amazing, generous, grace-filled mom (who is taking the kids for a  sleepover tonight ~ bless you, sweet mama!!!!).Â
…..I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers….
Thanks for stopping by *She Sparkles*! May you sense God’s presence with you….whatever you do
I sure miss my angel momma.
Thank you for this beautiful post, Cindy! My mom left this world for the arms of Jesus when I was 16.I pray everyday that I can be the best mom to my kids through God’s grace. We never, ever visualized how hard it would be right now walking with our daughter through her dark depression and anxiety and continuous OCD thoughts. I lean heavily on the Lord, Jesus for his strength. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” My son Jeff will be home on Mother’s day this year for the first time in several years. He has been touring with Capital Green Acapella for the past couple of years on this weekend. I can’t wait to have them all together for a big family group hugg!
Happy Mothers’ Day to YOU! Wonderful and action inspiring post. I lost my mom 20 years ago but I am grateful we were able to mend our relationship before she passed. Just found out my 81 year-old mom-in-law has stage 3 breast cancer and will start chemo in a week, so Mom’s day will be challenging for our family. Faith will see us through.
So glad to have discovered your Sparkle thanks to P31. Amazing grace!
Blessings to you and yours!

First time checking out your website. Love the “sparkle” verse — I’ll be looking at that again! Blessings as your story is aired on Sunday — we don’t have access to t.v., so I’ll miss it. However, I’m delighted for you. 🙂 Glad there was a note home about it, which led me to your site. May you have a fantastic Mother’s Day, even as I love how you point out that it’s a hard day for many.
Thanks for your sweet note, Marcia! I hope you had a fantastic Mother’s Day as well! <3
Happy Mother’s Day to one of the most precious and beautiful moms I know – YOU!!! God’s best to you sweet friend :-). Much love, Jenny C.
You too, Jenny C! I thank God for you! 🙂
Mother’s Day is hard for me today b/c my 21 year old daughter is 12 weeks pregnant. She is single, FOB won’t have anything to do with her b/c she refused to have an abortion. She has only finished two years of college, with no idea what she wants to major in. Finances were tight before, but now more so. And, even though we are sad and disappointed that she chose a behavior that is opposite of what she was taught all her life, it is still my job as a Christian mother to walk and talk Jesus to and for her. I am praying for strength and courage for my whole family as we journey through this crisis together, but I don’t know where to get help to best fulfill my role in this. I covet your prayers if the Holy Spirit brings our family to your mind.
I am praying for you right now. I pray that God infuses you with an abundance of grace, unfailing love and patience to share with your dear daughter. I pray that God gives you eyes to see her as He sees her. I also pray that God would surround your daughter with friends to be voices of Truth and hope during this challenging time. Please keep in touch as you can. I’m praying for God’s miraculous intervention and that He would reveal Himself to you all in very real, specific and tangible ways!
